DIRECT HAULING TO COUNTY LANDFILL

Chocolay Township residents can haul items to the Marquette County Landfill by stopping at the Township to complete a Haulers' Agreement. A $3.00 monthly user fee will be charged along with a deposit ($20.00 per every 500 lbs). Direct hauling can be a considerable savings to Chocolay residents. Call 249-1448 for more information.

Metal can be brought to the Marquette County Landfill by Chocolay residents for free during business hours without the special Haulers' Agreement.

Call Northern Refuse at 475-5260 or the Chocolay Township Office at 249-1448.

There is no curbside recycling during spring road weight restrictions. Please store recyclables during this period.

The quality of material is critical to the success of this program. PLEASE observe the following instructions and separate materials.

Please only tag your garbage, not your recyclables. You will use one tag per bag of garbage.

The following recyclables: Magazines & glossy flyers, glass containers, newspapers, aluminum or metal cans must be separated and can be put in grocery bags(preferred), clear plastic bag, milk type crates, laundry baskets, corrugated cardboard boxes.

MAGAZINES, GLOSSY FLYERS & PHONE BOOKS

NEWSPAPERS

GLASS CONTAINERS
Clear glass bottles and jars ONLY. NO tinted, colored glass or wine bottles accepted.
PLEASE rinse bottles and jars. PLEASE remove lids/rings and put in garbage.

CORRUGATED CARDBOARD Flatten, bundle, tie (no larger than 3' x 3' size) and put out at curbside. Large volumes can be dropped off at the Township office recycling container or call the Township for special pick up. All other types of cardboard are not accepted.

ENGINE WASTE OIL Will ONLY accept waste oil in #2 plastic gallon container clear (MILK JUG) NO cooking oil or ANTIFREEZE- see Household Hazardous Waste regulation for antifreeze.

ALUMINUM OR METAL CANS PLEASE rinse cans. They can be crushed if you prefer.

PLASTIC: MILK JUGS ONLY PLEASE rinse containers. Rings and caps are not recycled, PLEASE remove and place in garbage.

Milk jugs need to be cut and stacked inside each other or squashed flat. HERE'S HOW: Cut the jug on both sides from the top through the handle to about one-half inch from the bottom. A serrated knife used in a sawing motion works well for this procedure. Repeat this to the next jug and place one jug inside the other.
