INVITATION TO BID

The Charter Township of Chocolay, Michigan will receive sealed bids for:

2013 STREET RESURFACING PROJECT

Deadline and bid opening will be on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at 3:00 p.m.  Bid forms may be requested by calling the Township Clerk at 906-249-1448 or fax your request to 906-249-1313.  Click Bid Form to view the bid information online. 

Bid must be in sealed envelopes, clearly marked "2013 Street Resurfacing Bid".  No fax or electronic bids will be accepted.

Brad Neumann, Michigan State University Extension, gave a presentation at the Planning Commission meeting on Monday, May 6, on the Firewise Program.  This program is through Michigan State University and provides practices and resources available to help reduce losses caused by wildfires.    Click Firewise to view their website.

PLANNING COMMISSION/PUBLIC HEARINGS

The Planning Commission Meeting and Public Hearings scheduled for Monday, May 6 at 7:30 p.m. at the Township Hall have been relocated to Cherry Creek School, 1111 Ortman Road.

These Public Hearings would include the Proposed Conditional Use for 801 Willow Road, the Proposed Conditional Use for 110 Aspen Drive, and the Proposed Plan for the East/West ORV Connector Route.

The Gentz Sod Farm, which provides a site at no cost for Chocolay Township residents to dispose of grass clippings, leaves and pine needles, is now open.

Due to the new fire station construction, we will not be holding brush collection at the Township Hall.  Residents will be able to drop off brush and leaves at the Marquette County Landfill free of charge from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

NOTICE OF ADOPTION OF ZONING ORDINANCE AMENDMENT

Please take notice that on April 15, 2013, the Chocolay Township Board ordains that Ordinance #34, the Chocolay Township Zoning Ordinance as adopted May 9, 1977 and amended April 21, 2008 be further amended by adding the following three new standards to the eight standards in Section 16.2 Conditional Use Permit Basis of Determination and General Standards:

CHARTER TOWNSHIP OF CHOCOLAY

Notice is hereby given that Chocolay Township Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on Monday, May 6, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. at the Chocolay Township Hall at 5010 US-41 South, Marquette, MI to hear public comment on a proposed plan for an east/west ORV connector route utilizing select county roads.

As a reminder from our garbage contractor, please remember that garbage bags cannot weigh over 30 lbs. If the contractor determines that the bag is overweight, it will be tagged with a notice and will be left at the curb.

Due to the new fire station construction, the cardboard recycling at the Township Hall is closed until further notice for safety reasons. Residents can still use the curbside recycling program every other week (please see the recycling schedule). Commercial users can haul their cardboard to the Marquette County Landfill free of charge.

Recycling will still be picked up at curbside during the road weight restrictions that are now in effect. A second collection truck will pick up the recycled materials that remain after your trash has been collected.

Regular collection procedures will resume after weight restrictions are lifted.
