Notice to Property Owners Impacted by Floodplains
On July 6, 2012, the U.S. Congress passed the Biggert Waters Flood Insurance Reform Act of 2012 (Act). This legislation was precipitated by major storm events such as Hurricane Sandy, and is intended to spread the costs of such events, reducing Federal subsidies. There are new requirements of banks to re-evaluate all mortgage holders for flood insurance. The changes have NOT been precipitated by the adoption of new flood maps. The revised maps likely won't take effect until around April 2014 (you can view the draft maps in the Township office. This change is caused by the amendment to the flood insurance law. See entire notice.

No medication other than pill form accepted - no patches, no syringes or other sharps, and no liquids of any kind. You will find the drop box located in the Police lobby. We ask that you leave the medications in the original container and use a permanent marker to black out your name, but leave the medication name.

The Marquette County Landfill is making another significant change to the way the recycling is picked up. Effective immediately, rigids (plastic, metal, glass) must be placed at curbside in a container, such as a tote or garbage can. The garbage collector will not pick up rigids recycling in any kind of bags - paper or plastic. If the recyclables are not in the proper containers, the garbage collector will leave the bag with a tag attached as to why it wasn't picked up.
As a reminder, please remember to have your garbage and recyclables at curbside by 7:00 AM on your day of collection.
If you have any questions, please contact the Township Office at 249-1448.

Trash collection in Chocolay Township is Wednesday and Thursday. Trash must be set out by 7:00 AM on your day of collection. This is becoming more important as the trash contractor has been making changes to routes, and the normal times may be changing. Garbage cans are encouraged for deterring animals and birds from ripping open the bags.
Also, please remember that garbage bags cannot weigh over 30 lbs. If the contractor determines that the bag is overweight, it will be tagged with a notice and will be left at the curb.
