Brush Collection for Senior Residents
The Chocolay Township Department of Public Works will offer brush pick up for senior and disabled residents. This service is for Chocolay Township senior and disabled residents only. Eligible residents may call the Township office for brush collection during business hours prior to May 15, 2015.
Rules for brush pick up are as follows:
1. This service is for residents 65 and older and/or physically disabled residents that do not have other means of hauling their own brush to the Township drop off site.
2. Residents must call the Township office to schedule their pick up before May 15, 2015. Any calls received after final date will not be scheduled for pick up.
3. Brush can be no larger than 3 inches in diameter and no longer than 8 feet in length.
4. A total volume limit of no more than one level pickup box.
5. Brush must be neatly stacked on the lawn at the end of your driveway.
6. Township staff is not responsible for any pine cones, leaves, small sticks, or any other tree like material left behind.
This is for brush only - NO stumps, leaves, pine needles, grass clippings, or any other material can be mixed. Failure to follow rules may result in discontinued service.

Brush Drop Off - Spring 2015
Chocolay Township Department of Public Works will be opening the fall brush drop off on May 6, 2015. This service is for Chocolay Township residents only. Chocolay Township residents can drop their brush off at the Township office complex from May 6 through May 25. Signs will be in place to direct residents to the brush drop-off site in the back of the complex.

Rules for brush are as follows:

4. Stack brush as high as possible.
This is for brush ONLY - no stumps, leaves, pine needles, grass clippings, or any other material can be mixed. Failure to follow rules may result in fines for littering or the closure of the brush drop off service.

Election Day is Tuesday, May 5. Polls will be open from 7:00 AM until 8:00 PM.
Precinct 1 will vote at the new Fire Hall at 5010 US 41 South, and Precinct 2 will vote at the Prince of Peace Church at 555 Riverside Drive.

Absentee Ballots for the May 5 Special Election are available Monday thru Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
The Township Office will also be open on Saturday, May 2 from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM for your convenience.

Public Hearing - Cell Tower
Notice is hereby given that Chocolay Township Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on a conditional use application for a wireless communication tower on Monday, May 18, 2015 at 7 p.m. at the Chocolay Township Hall at 5010 US-41 South, Marquette, MI.
SBA Communications Corporation proposes to construct a 199 foot self-support tower on parcel #52-02-108-040-00 (AF district), entering the leased area via an access easement at 6165 US-41S.The tower will accommodate Verizon Wireless antennas as well as provide space for three additional carriers.A Conditional Use permit and site plan review are required according to Articles IX and XVI of the Chocolay Township Zoning Ordinance.
Copies of the proposed conditional use applications are available for review and inspection at the Chocolay Township Hall Mon – Fri 8 am – 5 pm, and can also be viewed here. Gentz Sod Farm Now Open
The Gentz Sod Farm, located at 264 Little Lake Road, is now open for the season. As a convenience to the residents of Chocolay Township, they provide a site at NO COST for disposal of grass clippings, leaves, and pine needles ONLY.
Please be considerate of the service that is offered to Chocolay Township residents and only dispose of the proper materials.

Weight Restrictions on Seasonal Roads
The Marquette County Road Commission will impose and enforce seasonal load and speed restrictions on all roads and streets under its jurisdiction beginning at 8:00 a.m. on Friday March 13, 2015. Restrictions apply to all motorized vehicles and loads. Normal legal loads are permitted on all roads designated as "All Season".
Weight restriction information and updates may be obtained by calling the Marquette County Road Commission at 486-4491 ext.2. Historically, the Marquette County Road Commission has placed weight restrictions on all roads in mid-March and with removal in mid-May. Loads will be reduced to 65% of a normal legal load when weight restrictions are in place.

Public Comment and Public Hearing on 2015 Draft Master Plan
A public comment period is now open for the Charter Township of Chocolay draft Master Plan 2015 Edition. This in an update to the current plan that was adopted in 2005. The draft is available for review at the Township Hall Mon – Fri 8 am – 5 pm and on our webpage. Comments can be mailed to Kelly Drake Woodward, Planning Director, 5010 U.S. 41 South, Marquette, MI 49855, or emailed to email@example.com, or can presented at the public hearing. The Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on the draft Master Plan on Monday, May 18, 2015 at 7:00 pm at Township Hall at the above address.

Garbage Tag Increase
Effective Monday, December 1, 2014 the price for a sheet of garbage tags (5 tags) will increase from $8.50 to $9.00.
This price increase is to cover the anticipated increases in landfill and contract hauler prices in 2015.
Tags may be purchased at the following Harvey locations: Chocolay Township Hall, Snyder Drug, Cherry Creek Market, Kassel's Korner, Holiday Gas Station, Krist Oil, Marquette Community Federal Credit Union.

Chocolay Senior Drop In Center
The Chocolay Senior Center meets every Tuesday and Thursday, 1:00 - 4:00 PM at the Township Hall. There are plenty of fun things happening - plan on stopping by to see what they have to offer. All seniors are encouraged to attend!!
