The Marquette County Road Commission will temporarily impose and enforce seasonal load and speed restrictions on all roads and streets under its jurisdiction from 8:00 AM on Saturday, February 18, 2017 until 8:00 AM on Friday, February 24, 2017. Restrictions apply to all motorized vehicles and loads. Normal legal loads are permitted on all roads designated as "All Season".

Rezoning Application 34-17-01 Public Hearing
Notice is hereby given that the Chocolay Township Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on a rezoning request from the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community (KBIC) to rezone parcel 52-02-112-048-70, a 21.5 acre parcel located at 200 Zhooniyaa Miikana Trail from R-1 (Residential) to C (Commercial).
The hearing will be held on February 20, 2017 at 7 PM in the Chocolay Township Hall at 5010 US-41 South, Marquette, MI.
All property owners within 500' of the subject property have been notified as per the Administrative Standards and Procedures (section 1.6) in the Chocolay Township Zoning Ordinance.
A copy of the submitted application and related materials will be available for review and inspection at the Township office during regular business hours (Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM), and on the Township web site (application materials). Principal and conditional uses for each zoning district can also be viewed online in section IV of the zoning ordinance.
Written comments will be received until 5 PM February 15, 2017. Questions or written comments can be directed to the Planning Director / Zoning Administrator at the Township office or by calling 249-1448.
Chocolay Township will provide necessary reasonable auxiliary aids and services to individuals with disabilities at the meeting upon four business day notice to the Chocolay Township Clerk, Max Engle.

Starting December 12, 2016, the Marquette County Solid Waste Facility will being INSPECTING all RIGID loads of recycling. There has been a significant increase in contamination of rigids (plastic, glass, and metal). For a list of acceptable and non-acceptable items, click here.
The hauler will be responsible for contamination of material coming from residential recycling routes, so GAD will be inspecting the material that is in your rigid recycling, and if it does not fit the definition, the material will be left.

21st Century Infrastructure Commission Report Released
The Michigan 21st Century Infrastructure report has been released. This report details the work the Michigan committee has completed over the last eight months. The report outlines the direction for water, transportation, energy, and communication for Michigan for the next 30 to 50 years. Much of this material will be part of the future Township planning process. The report can be found at 21st Century Infrastructure Commission.
